OUR STORY

In 2018, Lahum was born with a dual mission to promote environmental sustainability and support children’s education.

It was built from used shipping containers and designed with up-cycled materials to promote circular economy. It is located at Masdar Park in Masdar City, Abu Dhabi’s sustainable city.

In Arabic, Lahum means ‘for them’ as in for the children.

Let’s imagine an eco-friendly world where all children have access to quality education.

Lahum supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 4: Quality Education, 12: Responsible Consumption and 13: Climate Action. Ultimately the SDGs are interlinked and advances in one area will positively impact other .

It is imperative to prepare our next generation and give them “hope”, which we defines access to education. With an education, they will be able to seek decent employment opportuniti. . Jobs are interlinked to economic prosperity and peaceful communities. Productive members of the society are more likely to continue the cycle of innovation, education, and opportunity for future generations. Considering the wide array of economic and social factstosthat affect young people’s economic prospects, the path to education and employment remains one of the most pressing issues of our times along with climate change that will affect their habitat.

In just one year, we have managed to save over 3,500 items of pre-loved clothing. That is equivalent to a reduction of 2.5 million gallons of water and 28,000 kgs of CO2 emissions if these clothes would have been produced. Just image it takes 2,700 liters of water to produce a new t-shirt, that’s enough for one person to drink water for 900 days!

Our profits have now led to 13 scholarships for senior students at our partner schools, , which Abu Dhabi Indian School, Dar Al Uloom and The Philippine Global School, represent different communities in the UAE.

March 21st, 2019 marked an important milestone in Lahum’s journey. The 19 members of Lahum’s Scholarship Committee, who together represent 15 different countries across 5 continents, 4 religions and 15 industries came together to review scholarship applications from senior students at our partner schools.

Each Lahum scholarship is valued at AED5,000

We are grateful to community partners who have each contributed in various ways. After all, Lahum is a platform to
